Steven P. Monaghan, Esq.

Mr. Monaghan has experience in all aspects of New Jersey divorce law, including divorce litigation, mediation and collaborative law practice. He has been in the private practice of law for over 17 years. He has been certified as a Matrimonial Law Attorney by the Supreme Court of New Jersey. This designation by the Supreme Court is limited to attorneys who have demonstrated a substantial involvement in matrimonial trial matters, have an unblemished reputation as attested by judges and attorneys, have a substantial involvement in continuing education, and have passed a rigorous written examination on matrimonial law.

Mr. Monaghan has served on the Monmouth County Family Law Committee, which is a committee established through the Monmouth County Bar Association to provide input to the Court regarding Family Court practices and procedures. He serves the Court as an arbitrator for divorce cases in the Matrimonial Early Settlement Panel Program. Mr. Monaghan has been qualified as a mediator by the State of New Jersey, and he particiaptes in the Mediation Program for Economic Aspects of Family Law cases. He is rountinely appointed by the Court to mediate cases by the Family Part judges, and since 2007 he has been appointed by various Judges approximately 150 times to mediate high conflict divorces prior to trial. He has also been appointed by the Court to serve as Guardian Ad Litem, where he provides recommendations and assists Family Court judges in making custody determining that are in children's best interests.

Mr. Monaghan also serves as a Master Instructor in the Monmouth-Ocean County Family Law Inns of Court, which is an instructional/mentoring organization for family law attorneys. He has also served as a member of the Monmouth County Bar Association Committee on Professionalism. Mr. Monaghan is also active in Collaborative Practice, and he is a founding member of the Jersey Shore Collaborative Law Group (2005).

In 2006, he was named a Rising Star Lawyer in the SuperLawyers feature of New Jersey Monthly Magazine. He was again included on this list in 2007. In 2009, he was named one of the Top Lawyers in New Jersey by Super Lawyers. He was again included on the SuperLawyers list in 2010 and 2011.

Mr. Monaghan is a member of the New Jersey State Bar Association, Family Law Section, American Bar Association, Family Law Section. He is a member of the Bars of the State of New Jersey, United States District Court for the District of New Jersey, United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit, United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit, and the Supreme Court of the United States. He earned a B.A. in 1990 from Monmouth College and he received his J.D. in 1993 from Louisiana State University.


Kristin M. Stoop, Esq.

Kristin M. Stoop graduated Cum Laude from Quinnipiac University with a Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communications and a minor in English in 2003. She received her Juris Doctorate, Cum Laude from Quinnipiac University School of Law in 2008 where she was the Executive VP of the Mock Trial Honor Society, recipient of the Sappern Fellowship, Admissions Ambassador for the law school and a member in both the Family Law and Constitutional Law Societies.

Ms. Stoop completed a judicial law clerkship with the Honorable Eugene A. Iadanza, J.S.C. where her focus was in the area of family and juvenile law. She also served as a Court Mediator for the Special Civil Division under the supervision of the Honorable Lisa P. Thorton, J.S.C.

Ms. Stoop’s prior legal experience includes a clerkship at the New Haven County Court aiding victims of domestic violence file temporary restraining orders, a clerkship with the firm Campbell, Foley, Lee, Murphy & Cernigliaro in Asbury Park, New Jersey, and a clerkship with the Law Offices of Erskine D. McIntosh in Hamden, Connecticut.

She is a member of the Bars of the State of New Jersey and State of New York. She is also a member of the Monmouth County Bar Association where she participates in the Young Lawyer's Committee as well as the Blood Bank Drive. She is also a member of the Monmouth/Ocean Inns of Court.
