Steven P. Monaghan

The Law Office of Steven P. Monaghan is dedicated to the practice of family and divorce law in New Jersey. Mr. Monaghan has experience in all aspects of New Jersey divorce law, including divorce litigation, mediation and collaborative law practice. He is one of only 116 in the State of New Jersey who has been certified by the Supreme Court of New Jersey as a Matrimonial Law Attorney. This designation by the Supreme Court is limited to attorneys who have demonstrated a substantial involvement in matrimonial trial matters, have an unblemished reputation as attested by judges and attorneys, have a substantial involvement in continuing education, and have passed a rigorous written examination on matrimonial law. In 2006, Mr. Monaghan was named a Rising Star New Jersey attorney by the publishers of New Jersey Monthly magazine, Law & Politics magazine and SuperLawyers. He was again named a Rising Star in 2007.
Mr. Monaghan is a member of the Monmouth County Family Law Committee. He frequently serves the Court as an arbitrator for divorce cases in the Matrimonial Early Settlement Panel Program. He is also a member of the Monmouth County Bar Association Committee on Professionalism.
Mr. Monaghan is also a family law mediator. He is regularly appointed by the Court as a mediator for divorce cases through the Ocean and Monmouth Counties Mediation Program for Economic Aspects of Family Law Cases. In addition to being appointed by the Court, Mr. Monaghan handles private mediation cases.
He is also active in collaborative law practice for divorce resolution, and he is a founding member of the Jersey Shore Collaborative Law Group, serving on its Executive Committee.
He is a member of the New Jersey State Bar Association, Family Law Section, American Bar Association, Family Law Section and the American Association for Justice. He is a member of the Bars of the State of New Jersey, United States District Court for the District of New Jersey, United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit, United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit, and the Supreme Court of the United States. He earned a B.A. in 1990 from Monmouth College and he received his J.D. in 1993 from Louisiana State University.
